M. A. Kirilov’s Medal “60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR”
The medal is circular in shape, with a raised rim along the edge. All inscriptions and images on the medal are in relief. The medal is connected by a loop and ring to a pentagonal mount covered with a gray silk moiré ribbon. The edges of the ribbon are bordered with red stripes, and a longitudinal golden stripe runs down the center.
Obverse: against a background of upward-pointing rockets and flying military aircraft, there is an image of a Soviet Army soldier holding a rifle. To the right of the soldier, on the sea horizon, a submarine is depicted, above which the dates “1918” and “1978” are arranged in two lines.
Reverse: along the circumference are the inscriptions “Sixty Years” and “Armed Forces of the USSR,” separated by stars. In the center, over crossed rifle and saber, there is a five-pointed star with a hammer and plough in the middle.
On the reverse side of the mount, there is a pin-type fastening.
