Spindle

Description

Spindle (ұршық) - a hand tool traditionally used in Kazakh handicrafts for spinning wool and producing yarn. The object consists mainly of an elongated wooden shaft and a flat, circular rotating part located on one section of the shaft. The spindle has a long, cylindrical handle with a smooth surface. A wooden component for winding the yarn is attached to one end. A thread-wrapped section can be seen in the middle of the shaft, serving as a connecting element. Natural-colored spun yarn is attached to the spindle, with a ball of yarn located at the lower part.
The main function of the object is to hand-spin wool or other fibers into strong and evenly twisted yarn. As the spindle rotates, the fibers are drawn out and twisted together to form yarn. The finished yarn is then wound around the spindle shaft.
The object is one of the traditional tools widely used in Kazakh everyday life and is associated with wool processing, spinning, and the production of textile items.
