National Carpet (Syrmak)

Description

Traditional Kazakh ornamental carpet. The carpet is made from pieces of multicolored felt. Its main colors are orange, gray, and dark brown. The central part features a diamond-shaped composition, with its inner elements decorated with traditional floral Kazakh ornaments. The edges and side sections are adorned with wavy, curled, and floral motifs. The contours of the ornaments are outlined with thread and emphasized by stitching. The symmetrical arrangement of the ornaments enhances the artistic expressiveness of the carpet. In traditional Kazakh life, the carpet was used to decorate the interior of a dwelling and as a floor covering.
