Mat

Description

A traditional Kazakh household mat made from natural plant material. The object has an elongated rectangular shape. Its основу consists of thin, closely arranged stems secured horizontally with several rows of thread or fibrous cord, forming a continuous mat-like structure. The mat is unornamented and retains its natural yellowish-brown color. Signs of natural wear, bending, and occasional damage to the ends of the stems are visible on the surface as a result of use. In traditional Kazakh life, the mat was used to divide the interior space of a yurt, screen its walls, and for household purposes.
