Description
This is a valuable museum object reflecting the technological development of past centuries. The iron is cast from heavy cast iron and features a wooden handle. Inside the iron is a chamber for burning fuel. Charcoal or hot embers were placed in this chamber to heat the soleplate. The heavy, flat soleplate allowed clothes to be pressed effectively. The wooden handle protected the user’s hand from burns.
