A nocturnal landscape in a dark, saturated tonality. The compositional center is a full moon of warm radiance set amid dark, billowing clouds; its light - the sole source of illumination - falls softly across the bank of clouds, edging them with ochre and silvery-grey reflexes. In the lower portion, shadowed hillsides converge toward a hollow marked by a pale patch of light. The work is executed in the impasto technique with dense, full-bodied brushwork in a generalized manner.
