Description

This artifact consists of a cylindrical metal cartridge case and a wooden mallet used when handling ammunition components. The cartridge case is hollow, with a primer pocket in the base, and contains no explosive material; therefore, it is not considered live ammunition. Such cartridge cases were commonly retained after firing or used as training examples for demonstrating the construction of ammunition.
