Description
Aybalta is a sharp and formidable weapon known since the time of Ancient Egypt. It became widespread in Central Asia and Kazakhstan during the 14th-15th centuries. Kazakh craftsmen reinforced the handle on both sides with metal bands and decorated it with traditional “ram’s horn” patterns. For a firm grip, the lower part was tied with a leather strap. The weapon is called aybalta (“moon axe”) because its blade resembles the shape of a crescent moon.
