Description

Tekemet is a traditional Kazakh felt floor covering made from sheep wool using the felting technique and decorated with a coloured wool ornament applied to its surface. The object was made in 1938 by Beden Zhalgasbayeva, a resident of the Zhylyoi District, and presented as a gift to her daughter, Alua Aknazarova. The item was later donated to the museum collection by her son, Nurdaulet Aknazarov. Tekemets traditionally served both practical and decorative functions in Kazakh domestic interiors and represent traditional methods of wool processing and felt production.
