Description

The object is a painted portrait of Isatay Taimanuly, a prominent historical figure and leader of the Kazakh national liberation movement of 1836-1838. The figure is depicted from the waist up wearing a traditional pointed helmet with a decorative feather plume and armour. His determined facial features, beard, and moustache are clearly rendered. The painting is executed against a light background in a predominantly monochromatic red-brown palette.
